Consul General Justice M.T. Mohamed Laffar presented his Letter of Commission to His Excellency Farid bin Saad Al-Shehri, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Makkah al-Mukarramah Branch, on Wednesday, 13th May 2026.
Following the presentation of his Letter of Commission, Consul General Laffar and His Excellency Farid bin Saad Al-Shehri briefly discussed matters of interest between Sri Lanka and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Prior to his current appointment as the Consul General of the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Jeddah, Justice Laffar served in the judicial service for 3 decades in Sri Lanka, serving in various capacities, most recently as the Acting President of the Court of Appeal. He had also served as the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission, and is a visiting lecturer at the Sri Lanka Law College. Reflecting his strong commitment to minimizing delays in the judicial system, he set a record in 2007 by delivering 120 orders and judgments in a single day.
